Engr. Melfred Anthony Berdera, a Senior Science Research Specialist of the Geo-SAFER Agusan Project was the recipient of the Japan Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (JSPRS) Most Outstanding Paper Award 2017 for his research study entitled “Simulating the effects of Dredging to River Hydraulic Characteristics using LiDAR” during the Asian Conference on Remote Sensing (ACRS) last October 23-27, 2017 at New Delhi, India.

Progress Reporting, Monitoring conducted among Geo-SAFER Mindanao Key Personnel

The Geo-Informatics for the Systematic Assessment of Flood Effects and Risks (Geo-SAFER) Mindanao Program conducted a Progress Reporting and Monitoring among its core-group last November 14, 2017 at Paras Beach Resort, Camiguin Island.

Project Leaders, Chief Science Research Specialists and Project Development Officers from the five (5) implementing Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) of the program namely: Ateneo de Zamboanga University, Caraga State University, Central Mindanao University, Mindanao State University- Iligan Institute of Technology and University of the Philippines Mindanao attended the activity. Representatives from each HEI presented their project’s general information, current status & activities, accomplishments, problems encountered and solutions. An open forum was also conducted through which issues and concerns regarding the program were raised and addressed.

Caraga DRRM Council, Disaster Preparedness Committee support Geo-SAFER Agusan Project

Through a series of meetings and presentations, the Geo-Informatics for the Systematic Assessment of Flood Effects and Risks (Geo-SAFER) Agusan Project was able to gain support from Caraga’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Council and Disaster Preparedness Committee in conducting its activities and endeavors towards achieving a flood-resilient Agusan.
