The Caraga Center for Geo-Informatics (CCGeo) and the Geo-SAFER Agusan Project conducted a Training on the Principles and Applications of Geographic Information System (GIS) Module 1 last October 8-12, 2018 at Grand Palace Hotel, Butuan City for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across Caraga.

Faculty-researchers from Father Saturnino Urios University (FSUU), Saint Joseph Institute of Technology (SJIT), Surigao Education Center (SEC), Surigao State College of Technology (SSCT) and Caraga State University (CSU) were given lectures and hands-on exercises about Basic GIS, Cartography and Spatial Analysis during the 5-day event. The training is part of a series of activities under the Geo-Informatics Capability Building Program of CCGeo and Geo-SAFER Agusan.

"I am very much thankful for being a part of this event. I consider this as a rare opportunity to be trained about GIS and to be imparted with the knowledge and skills for the Geodetic Engineers from Geo-SAFER Agusan", Ms. Sheena Litang, SSCT participant said.

Engr. Meriam Makinano-Santillan, Geo-SAFER Agusan Project Leader and Dean of the Caraga State University College of Engineering and Information Technology emphasized the importance of GIS not only in engineering but also in other fields and applications as it is important in making smart and informed decisions. "I hope that as you go to your respective schools, you will be able to apply the skills that you have gained from this training and also encourage other faculty-researchers to also engage in GIS".
