The Caraga Center for Geo-Informatics together with the Geo-SAFER Agusan Project officially launches MaBAHAng Usapan: A Flood Hazard Awareness Caravan last February 6, 2019, at the GIS Laboratory of Caraga State University, Butuan City.

MaBAHAng Usapan aims to create an avenue through which students will be educated and empowered in terms of flood hazards and to advocate flood-resilience at a young age. The event involves various interactive lectures and learning activities related to flood hazard awareness.

Among the topics discussed was about Flooding: The Philippine Scenario which tackled what flood disasters are all about and the different flood events that occurred in the country. The Geo-SAFER Agusan Project was also introduced to the participants, followed by the understanding and interpretation of Flood Hazard Maps along with the demonstration of Geo-SAFER Agusan’s online monitoring systems. The said topics were discussed by Geo-SAFER Agusan personnel.

Marcelino Bernardos, a BS Social Work student, expressed his gratitude for giving them insights about flooding. “I am very thankful because, now, I became well aware that there are things I can do to prepare not only myself but also the community in times of flooding”, he added.

More schools across Caraga are set to be visited by the MaBAHAng Usapan team.
