Geo-SAFER Agusan

The Geo-SAFER Agusan Project is a component of the Geo-SAFER Mindanao Program that aims to conduct geo-informatics based approaches for the systematic assessment of flooding in the different watersheds of Caraga Region. Caraga State University is the implementing Higher Education Institution (HEI) of the project. The project is under the College of Engineering and Information Technology (CEIT) of Caraga State University through the Caraga Center for Geo-Informatics (CCGeo). Geo-SAFER Agusan is led by the Dean of CEIT and the Geo-SAFER Mindanao Program leader, Engr. Meriam M. Santillan.

The project is expected to benefit 33 cities/municipalities in Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur and Dinagat Islands. Aside from the production of detailed flood hazard maps and conduct of seminars to LGUs, one of the project’s activities is the development of a web-based platform that is capable of providing near real time information on the spatial distribution and detailed characteristics of the current and future (forecasted) flood scenarios. These characteristics are the flood arrival times, flood depth, flood velocities, flood duration, flood recession times and the percentage in time that a particular area would remain inundated.
